daily care

The external dog.

Nails. Do not have to be cut because Beau wears them out on pavements and other paths.

Ears. Auricles are sometimes cleaned carefully with a damp washing glove.

Penis. Is regularly washed with a damp washing glove, dried and when necessary we use a special cleaner called prepusol.

Teeth. Are brushed regularly with dog tooth paste and soft brush. Sometimes Beau chews dentastix or other chewing material from the pet shop. The vet once removed some tartar on his front teeth.

Fur. Cleaning: brushing with brush and comb, each time taking little strands of hair starting from the skin because of the old hair in his undercoat and because of tangled hair. After his strolls in the woods we have to remove mud, thistles, leaves, little branches and ticks with a special ticktool after which we have to dry him with lots of towels or blow him dry. At times Beau is that dirty he has to take a shower with dog shampoo and lukewarm water (to his regret). Trimming: the hair at the backside of his front and back feet and underneath his feet.

The internal dog.

Food. Present. Because of his problems with his coat and skin 5 year old Beau only eats fresh prepared food. Since October 2007 he devours ecologically produced vegetables (everything except leek and onions) and meet. His new diet is prescribed by a holistic vet. In the morning Beau eats cooked patatoes with raw or cooked meat like steak, minced meat of heart from the cow, or a product of the brand bandit, consisting of frozen meat mixes (e.g. goat and chicken) bought at the natural pet food store. In the afternoon Beau eats a combination of five cooked vegetables like carrot, French beans, fennel and cabbage, with fresh meat and a supplement of magnesium/calcium. In total Beau daily eats about 250 gram of meat and 500 gram of vegetables. In addition he likes to have cheese and milk from the goat, apple, banana and dried animal  (cow) sinews. Beau’s condition has strongly improved since his new diet: his coat is glossy and his hair is longer than ever, his bald patches have nearly disappeared. He also plays with more energy. Before. Up until his fourth year Beau was fed dried pet food from Eukanuba, Royal Canin, Hill’s, Arden Grange, Yarrah biological food and again Arden Grange fresh rice and chicken Large Breed. To vary his food he also ate cooked chicken or minced meat from the cow with rice and ready mades from Nature diet food. His candies were apple, banana, bread, frolic, cheese, kibbles, dried sinews, French beans and sausages.

Visits to regular and holistic vets. Allopecia, bite and scratch wounds, chemical castration, diarrhoea, flue, histiocytoom, inflammation in eye corners and stitched up wounds and penis, injury right paw, pneumonia, swollowing of pieces of lead and plastics, vaccinations.
